Experience the beauty of Tonle Sap Lake and discover the unique way of life in Cambodia's floating villages. Travel by boat through peaceful waterways, see floating homes and fishing communities, and enjoy the natural scenery of Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake. For bird lovers, the surrounding wetlands also offer excellent opportunities to see some of Cambodia's most impressive waterbirds.

Start early in the morning from Siem Reap and travel by boat toward Prek Toal. Along the way, enjoy views of the lake, floating houses, fishing boats, and local life. After arriving at Prek Toal, we continue by smaller boat into the sanctuary for our main birding experience.

The sanctuary is well known for its large waterbird colonies. Depending on the season and water levels, we may see Spot-billed Pelican, Greater Adjutant, Lesser Adjutant, Milky Stork, Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Black-headed Ibis, Oriental Darter, cormorants, herons, and egrets.

With an experienced local bird guide, you will have plenty of time to watch and photograph the birds without rushing. We also take time to learn about the wetland, bird behavior, and the importance of protecting this special habitat.

Transfer to Boat Pier
Drive 30–45 minutes to the lake (Mechrey or Chong Khneas).

Boat Trip on Tonlé Sap
Board a private boat and cruise across the lake, passing floating villages and fishermen.

  Best Time to Visit

December – May (dry season) is best for birdwatching. An early morning start is recommended for the best wildlife viewing.
